Environmental Groups Endorse Sam Bennett PDF Print E-mail

ALLENTOWN – This week both the League of Conservation Voters and the Sierra Club announced their support for Democratic candidate Sam Bennett for Congress, already endorsed by Clean Water Action.

“Dent’s record on the environment is abysmal,” says Dave McGuire from the Sierra Group.  “Sam has a plan to deal with climate change.  It includes a market based cap-and-trade system, an increase in efficiency for buildings and cars, and rapid investment in alternative energy sources.”

Bennett’s Republican opponent, Charles Dent, actually received only a 7% rating from the League of Conservation Voters during the 109th Congress.  Some of his votes during that period include saying NO to higher fuel efficiency standards, NO to adding alternative fuels to oil reserves, and NO to creating an Office of Environmental Justice.

“At this critical time, Congress needs leaders like Sam Bennett who will be strong and unwavering in their commitment to clean energy and a renewable future,” said LCV representative Jay Natoli.  “She will be a tireless advocate for a new, responsible energy policy that will ensure economic growth for the Lehigh Valley and America.”

Sam Bennett’s plan for the environment focuses on climate change, clean air and water, health communities, and wildlife protection.

“I am so proud to have the endorsement of those who care so much about the environment,” says Bennett.  “They’ve turned environmental values into national priorities.  And I’ll take that same spirit to Washington, working toward a cleaner, greener future for our children and grandchildren.”
