ALLENTOWN - The Republican
failure to join Democrats in passing legislation to address our country's
financial crisis is another example of what's wrong with Washington.
Congressman Dent has taken over $640,000 from the very groups that caused the
meltdown on Wall Street, and now refuses to be part of the solution when our job
security and retirement security are at stake.
Just the other night, one
of the most important banks in our area nearly failed. Wachovia Bank employs
thousands of Pennsylvanians, holds billions of deposits and has issued thousands
of mortgages in the Lehigh Valley.
Bush and Dent got us into this
mess and now, more than ever, we need leaders in Congress who can work together
to secure our savings, stabilize our economy and protect Main Street. Any new legislation must protect taxpayers
and hold executives accountable:
Wall Street Must Pay the Price. Make sure that the speculators and investors
responsible for this crisis pay for it and make sure they place a cap on
executive compensation.
Protect Homeowners and Small Businesses. Help renegotiate bank loan rates and
increase the FDIC insurance limit to $250,000 per bank.
Aggressive Oversight. Phased authorizations of funds,
approval board of major financial transactions, and regular reporting to
Congress.
People in the Lehigh Valley are
disgusted with the inaction in Washington, DC. Days of silence from Congressman
Dent - followed up by partisan posturing – won't help keep people in their homes
or fend off a recession.
