Sam Bennett Talks Issues with College Students at LCCC PDF Print E-mail
ALLENTOWN – Democratic Congressional candidate Sam Bennett spoke to college students today at Lehigh Carbon Community College.  The Student Union put on the event as part of the Pizza and Politics series.

“Young people have the most at stake in the future of our country,” says Bennett.  “They asked very pointed questions about trade, energy, and so many other issues.  Most of them will be voting for the first time this November and looking for more than just change.  They want a leader that will help make sure that get the job done for them.”

America currently ranks 28th in math and 19th in science and only 70 percent of high school students even make it to graduation.  As the Lehigh Valley’s Representative in Congress, Bennett will support universal pre-K for every child, full funding for education mandates, and increased recruitment and training of skilled math and science teachers.  She will also work to make sure that every child that can get into a college can go to that college by cutting student loan interests rates in half and providing families with a $4,000 tuition tax credit.

So far this campaign, Bennett has spoken with hundreds of students at colleges throughout the Lehigh Valley, including Lehigh University, Muhlenberg College, and Northampton Community College.  In the Lehigh Valley, she worked with Republicans and Democrats to start the William Allen Construction Company to help fix up William Allen High School and train high school students for high skilled jobs.  As a result of her work in the Lehigh Valley, she was one of a few non-teachers to receive the Allentown Excellence in Education Award in 2005.
