The Truth About Dent's Smears PDF Print E-mail
Dent has run a special interest and lobbyist funded smear campaign to distract from his voting record.  Sam Bennett continues to tell the truth about herself and her opponent's record because voters want reprsentative with a plan for the economy rather than a plan of personal attack.

Charles W. Dent attacks Sam's work with Properties of Merit, a non-profit organization that she founded:

Sam worked with hundreds of volunteers to encourage hundreds of people to clean up ther homes and keep our communities clean and safe.  She volunteered for 7 years running this program and it was so successful that Governor Rendell approved the funding to take the program statewide.  The Propoerties of Merit Board of Directors hired Sam to be its first Executive Director and now there are program in the Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Harrisburg regions and throughout the Lehigh Valley.  Following IRS guidelines, recommendations from the Pennsylvania Association of Non-Profit Organizations and information from Abbot & Langer and Guide Star, POM Board of Directors determined the appropriate level of pay for this position.   When it became clear that due to her run for Congress that unfair attacks would be leveled at POM and its Board of Directors, Sam told the POM board that she would only accept half of the salary they had determined was appropriate.  Sam wanted to send a clear message that it wasn't about the money, never will be about the money, and never has been about the money.

Charles W. Dent attacks Sam's debate misstatement about two local banks:

Sam misspoke, leaving out the word "nearly," and took responsible action to correct the record.  She did not ask the station to blur her words, only to correct the record.  Her statement was intended to point out that Dent, who has taken $640,000 from Wall Street, waited for markets to crash, banks to nearly fail, and $150 billion in earmarks before he voted for the bailout.

Charles W. Dent attacks Sam's position on immigration:

Sam does not support amnesty.  While she supports protecting the borders by increasing border patrol agents and prosecution of border crimes, her Republican opponent Charles Dent has been in Washington for four years and blocked comprehensive immigration reform legislation.

Charles W. Dent claims that Sam opposes drilling for oil:

Sam supports drilling in the 68 million acres where we already have leases.  She also supported the Comprehensive American Security Act, which included heavy investment in renewable energy and off shore drilling.  Her Republican opponent Charles Dent voted NO.

Charles W. Dent attacks Sam's fundraising:

Unlike her Republican opponent Charles Dent, Sam Bennett has not taken a penny from any lobbyists.  As of the 2nd quarter FEC filings, Sam raised more total money from individuals than any other Pennsylvania Democratic challenger and in that 2nd quarter she raised more money from individuals than any Republican incumbent.  Dent funds 40% of his campaign with money from Political Action Committees.  He also takes $640,000 from Wall Street, $150,000 from Big Oil and Drug Companies, and $150,000 from lobbyists.

Charles W. Dent attacks Sam's support for the troops:

Sam's father was a Marine officer and pilot, her uncle a retired Naval Commander, and she was in ROTC in college and has mentored Junior Naval ROTC cadets for almost a decade.  Sam lived in Saigon Vietnam during that conflict, her stepfather ran a plastic surgery unit for war injured children.  She has seen first hand the cost of war.  Coming from a military family, she knows that the best way to support our troops is to bring them home to the hero's welcome they deserve.  Sam helped draft the Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq . Over 50 other Democratic challengers have signed on to the plan, which calls for the phased draw down of troops, beginning immediately with input from military commanders.  She believes that we need to go after terrorism at the source with the smart use of a strong military, sound intelligence work, and vigorous diplomacy.  Her opponent went to Congress in 2005, knowing that there were no WMD's in Iraq, and still he supports Bush's endless occupation strategy, even voting NO for mandatory rest periods for the very soldiers that serve.

Charles W. Dent attacks Sam's ideology:

Sam Bennett is a fiscally conservative, pro-growth, pro-choice, pro-environment, and pro-2nd Amendment Democratic candidate that believes that our policies should keep our nation safe and strengthen the middle class.
