We Have 3 Immigration Problems |

We really have three immigration problems, and we can only fix things by solving all three at once.
First, we have a border problem. You won’t hear this from me very often, but I agree with Ronald Reagan when he said “If you don’t control your borders, you’re not really a country.” We need to spend what it takes to secure our borders, but building a wall is not the answer. That's not America.
Second, we have 10-12 million undocumented immigrants here already. We don’t know who they are, we don’t know where they are, we don’t know if they have criminal records or even car insurance. We need to fix our system so that we can find out who’s here, and decide what their status should be.
Third, we’ve got to enforce the laws we already have to make it more painful for employers to hire undocumented immigrants. Businesses that hire undocumented workers often exploit them, and hurt wages for American workers. Undocumented immigrants aren’t coming across our border to take American jobs, they’re coming because unscrupulous employers are giving them American jobs.
